Some of us may never heard of Facialy Paralysis before. Actually it is a disease when a person experienced the total loss of voluntary muscle movement at one side of the face. It is also known as paralysis of the face.

There are some causes of Facialy Paralysis which will be described below:

  • There is about 75% of facial paralysis cases in adults are caused by Bell’s Palsy condition. This is a condition in which the facial nerve becomes inflamed. This disorder can be caused by our body’s response to a certain virus. This virus affects our facial nerve (which is located in the ear bone) and it swells. This brings to the pressure on the nerve in this bony canal and damages it. There is a series of tests that should be done first to see whether this is really the cause but this is the most common cause.
  • Stroke can also cause facial paralysis. If this is the case, the eye on the affected side can still be closed and the forehead can be crinkled (in case of Bell’s Palsy this is impossible).
  • Brain tumor is the other cause of Facial Paralysis. This tumor generally develops slowly and brings the symptoms of headaches, seizures, or hearing loss.
  • Some cases of newborns with birth trauma can also result Facial Paralysis.
  • Other causes: Sarcoidosis, Lyme disease.
